Tuesday 8 October, 2013

12 noon Darwin Time

With just minutes between them, long-standing rivals, Nuon Solar Team from the Netherlands in Nuna 7 is still leading Team Tokai from Japan in Tokai Challenger as they approach the South Australian border. After travelling more than 1700 kilometres, they have less than 100 to travel before the border crossing. Team Twente also from the Netherlands is still following in third about 60 kilometres behind the leading pair. Stanford from the USA is in fourth position having just cleared the Alice Springs Control Stop. Belgian  Punch Powertrain is in 5th position, just north of Alice Springs and Aussie Team Arrow has gained a place, now in 6th  position, in front of Solar Energy Racers from Switzerland (7th), now ahead of a possibly struggling team Michigan who have dropped back to 8th place.

In the Cruiser Class, the world’s first solar family car, Stella, from team Eindhoven is demonstrating her reliability having regained the lead position from the German Hochschule Bochum team. Team Eindhoven are approximately 100 kilometres north of Alice Springs and have been reaching speeds of up to 120 kilometres per hour, carrying four people.

Further updates to follow the conclusion of Day 3.
