How many times has your team participated in the event?
Our team has participated two times. In WSC 2009, we had won the best newcomer award. Second time was in 2013. This year, we will attend with our 9th solar car BOW Istanbul.
What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?
Challenge in design process for the mechanical subteam is that reduce the aerodynamic loss while considering solar array area, safety, and minimizing solar car mass. This purpose canalizes us to realize a little bit asymmetrical catamaran body design.
What is unique about your solar car?
In this WSC, all of our team member give importance to innovation in their subworks. Electrical, mechanical, production, and strategy groups have plenty of creative ideas to present the WSC community. So, we can easily say that BOW Istanbul is way too efficient than ever before.
Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?
ITU Solar Car Team is the only team that can participate BWSC 2017 from Turkey. Also, we want to continue the solar mobility and renewable energy culture in our country. This valuable event is the biggest event that we can achieve great values and knowledge from each other.
What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?
Meeting up with similar minded people from all around the world and experince a real challenge under the name of BWS”Challenge”
