How many times has your team participated in the event?

FAST will be representing Flinders University for the second time this October.

What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?

The Investigator Mark III, developed by FAST, is the latest in a proud heritage of renewable energy vehicles developed at Flinders University. Our teams mission is to develop a feasible roadworthy vehicle the size of a standard car and our upcoming design changes keep this in mind while accommodating a student honours project in Aerodynamics.

What is unique about your solar car?

FAST engineers claim our stand-out factor is that the Investigator Mark III is possibly the most practical taking part in the Cruiser class. There are plans to give the car comfortable seating, a decently sized windscreen with good visibility; conventional doors like a standard car; and capability to charge at a standard public AC charging station.

Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

Our multidisciplinary collaboration of staff, students and volunteers eagerly anticipates the competition this year as it is a chance to see the culmination of all the seemingly endless hours in the workshop. We also enjoy meeting other competitors from all over the world and look forward to getting a chance to hang out with them.

What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?

A few of our team members have never been to Darwin, so it's a great opportunity to explore more of our country. A few seasoned vets are looking forward to showing newcomers their favourite spots to stop for coffee!
