How many times has your team participated in the event?

We started to participate in 1993 and have taken part in the challenge 9 times so far. Our participation in 2023 will be our 10th challenge.

What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?

For the 2023 Bridgestone World Solar Challenge, our team set a goal to build a sustainable solar car. We designed and developed the solar car based on the 3Rs principle and philosophy, i.e., Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. By adopting lightweight materials for the car body and a three-wheel design, we could reduce number of parts including the manufacturing process. Additionally, we reused components like the rear arms, shock absorbers, and motors as much as possible. Furthermore, we utilized recycled materials for the CFRP parts. Through these efforts, we tried to realize an environmentally friendly solar car.

What is unique about your solar car?

As our new challenge aiming for a sustainable society, we used recycled materials for some CFRP parts. We also realize ultra-light body by using state of the art CFRP materials. Furthermore, we realized high aerodynamic performance body by using state of the art CFD technology. Furthermore, we improved our technology on the balancer Circuit for increase in solar power generation.

Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

We are confident that participating in the world's largest solar car challenge will provide us with unparalleled experiences and invaluable learnings. Interacting with numerous engineers from all over the world will surely create moments of profound significance for us.

What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?

Australia boasts a diverse range of landscapes, from deserts to tropical rainforests and stunning coastlines. We are genuinely excited to participate the challenge amidst this beautiful nature, which is so different from Japan.
