Fuelled by the silent power of nature, the World Solar Challenge is the classic solar car adventure across the Australian continent.
Nuna 4 on the Stuart Highway in South Australia, Photo: Hans-Peter van Velthoven Welcome to our new home at worldsolarchallenge.org which heralds a new and exciting phase in our history. Our pioneer sponsor, the South Australian Tourism Commission, has provided seed funding for our next event which will again be managed by the South Australian Motorsport Board, organisers of the multi award winning Clipsal500 festival of motorsport. South Australian Tourism, together with the Government of the Northern Territory of Australia have ensured that together we can show the world that the bright young people of the planet are addressing the challenge of finding cleaner and greener solutions to our demand for personal mobility. We also welcome Internode, one of Australia’s largest internet service providers, who have demonstrated their commitment to the event by renewing their important sponsorship contribution. Since Adelaide was the host city for WED2000, World Environment Day has become the key date for us to announce details of the next World Solar Challenge. The general arrangements have been ratified by the Board, and we can now confirm the dates of 2011 World Solar Challenge®. This will be WSC11, the 11th extreme endurance event in this format. Run over a single stage of 3000km, the event will start on Sunday October 16th 2011. Preparation facilities will be made available in Darwin from Tuesday 4th October 2011, with the awards being presented on Sunday 23rd October 2011. The General and Technical Regulations for the 2011 World Solar Challenge have now been published with most of the changes announced on World Environment Day incorporated. Please note these Regulations supersede those for previous events. The home team is working through a number of operational and procedural issues aimed at improving the World Solar Challenge experience for everyone. We look forward to receiving your entry requests, and meeting you in Darwin for one of the greatest scientific adventures of our time.
