SOLO: Seoul National University Solar Car Team

How many times has your team participated in the event?

This is our first time participating in the World Solar Challenge!

What is the design philosophy behind your solar car?

The driving soul of Korea is the utmost speed. We work to reach the ultimate speed based on the stability guaranteed by our technological excellence. This is our first participation in BWSC, leading to tons of trials and errors on our way. The bullet design with 3 wheels is inspired by the past participants, and we make flexible changes constantly to minimize the air resistance while keeping our soul for high speed. Rather than aiming to chase perfection in every tiny piece of the vehicle, we improve through non-stop learning and experiments, never being afraid of innovative changes.

What is unique about your solar car?

Our solar car embodies the perfect fusion of advanced materials: an aluminum profile body frame, renowned in commercial vehicle chassis, seamlessly blends with the modern allure of carbon fiber. We have drawn inspiration from diverse transportation domains such as control panels for ships, canopies for helicopters, and suspensions for electric bikes. This convergence of influences creates a solar car that transcends boundaries, embodying innovation, excellence, and the pinnacle of automotive artistry. Our mission is to unite present-day technologies with future advancements, forging a collaboration that propels us forward.

Why does your team value participating in the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge?

It is not easy for students to complete a project with a minimum duration of one year, and up to two years. Especially as a team composed solely of undergraduate students, our team members must dedicate time and effort not only to the project but also to their academic lives. However, we decided to participate in this competition to challenge our own limits and gain new teachings. Furthermore, we aim to cultivate various qualities necessary in our lives such as perseverance, flexibility, cooperation, and problem-solving abilities by stepping out of our comfort zone and surviving in an unfamiliar environment.

What is the one thing your team is looking forward to when you visit Australia?

Solar car drive in Australia: Transformative experience, profound development

Australia's unparalleled environment, abundant sunshine, and awe-inspiring outback create an ideal canvas for the advancement of solar car technology. We expect to have a challenging expedition that offers an unforgettable experience in unique surroundings, propelling solar energy to new heights.
